You have decided to visit Asia for your imminent vacation and have prearranged to go to Pattaya, Thailand. Your journey is booked but you are still looking for a hotel. But, how do you decide which lodging to stay at?

Your opinion should be based on what you think out to do while you are Pattaya. Will you be spending most of your time globe-trotting, shopping or loving the nightlife? Most presumably you will be enjoying the nightlife and will want to be situated in the heart of it.

There are three major areas in Pattaya – North, South, and Central and all three have their plusses and minuses. Getting a lodging in any of the three will boil down to an individual first choice.

North Pattaya is in the Soi 2 area or even a little further North called Naklua. Most of the tourists here are from Europe and the nightlife is comfortable but not beautiful. I scarcely ever go to the Naklua area but I do take pleasure in the Soi 2 nightlife area.

South Pattaya is very good and includes the area around the notorious Walking Street. There are many lodgings available from Soi 13 to Walking Street and also along the side streets between 2nd Road and Walking Street. Many are small pubs with a handful of rooms above the bar.

To me, Central Pattaya is where to stay. The area is foremost as I can walk or catch a baht bus to anywhere in a matter of minutes. Beach Road, 2nd Road or even down to Soi Buakhao are perfect locations as long as the lodging is between Central Road and Soi 13.

Most of the resorts in Pattaya are in the 2 – 4 star range with the occasional 5 star (Marriott) but a 2 – 4 star in Pattaya is definitely a cut above similar hotels in the states. I prefer the smaller, pub places that have a handful of rooms upstairs. Most are owned by a couple and really do their best to make your stay a great one.

Do your research, and look for a discount Pattaya resorts, and enjoy your stay in the Land of Smiles. It won’t be hard to find your Asian lodging in Pattaya at all.

They have a clipboard in hand and will pester you even if you tell them that you already have a ride booked. They charge about double what I book my ride for and are extremely annoying.

The service I use is run by a guy named Mr. Kob and he has gotten so popular that he has had to outsource his service. He takes his cut and other drivers show up. He also provides a cell phone number in case you cannot locate your driver at the airport. He charges 1500 baht for the ride and that includes airport parking, tolls and the ride. You can also request a car that you can smoke in. If you want to stop along the way for a quick break – that is not a problem. Just let the driver know.

I have always gotten pleasant drivers, who let me smoke, and play music – either Thai or American. They get me to Pattaya in about 1 hour and 30 minutes and take me straight to my hotel or guest house front door. I usually tip about 200 Baht for the safe and efficient ride to my final destination.

So, my testimonial for your trip from the Bangkok Airport to Pattaya is to book in advance and have a delightful ride to Pattaya. There is no sense flying half way around the world and start your vacation riding a bus. Book in advance and enjoy the last leg of your trip before you hit the night life of Pattaya. Partying in Pattaya

While a little bit sleazy, Pattaya is the oldest party beach in Thailand. It is a couple of hours south of Bangkok by highway and has more hotels and bars per capita than anywhere else in Thailand. The actual beach in Pattaya is not as nice as beaches at other prominent beach resorts, yet it is busy and the main focal point by day.

At night, Pattaya really comes into its own. If you are into drinking, eating and women of the night, this is the place to come. The liveliest part is Walking Street in the south at the end of the beach.

Lounging in Phuket

Thailand’s second-most favorite party beach is Patong, located way down in the southwest of Thailand on the western side of Phuket. Although virtually anything goes in Patong, it is on the whole a lot less sleazy than Pattaya, plus there are quality beaches to the north and south. In addition, and unlike Pattaya, Phuket has its own international airport with flights from Europe and all over Southeast Asia.

Getting Down in Samui

Thailand’s third most happening beach is Chaweng Beach on the island of Koh Samui. It lies in the Gulf of Thailand and also comes with an airport, yet flights here are a lot more expensive than getting to Phuket as one airline, Bangkok Airways, owns the airport and has the monopoly.

Chaweng Beach lies on the east coast of Samui, as it is more commonly known. It is the island’s largest beach and has the best spread of accommodation. Backpackers come from far and wide to drink and revel on the beach here although for the rest of the month it remains a lot quieter. Phangnan is a bit of a pain to get to as it doesn’t have an airport. It is accessed by ferry from Samui.
