It used to be that Mauritius was the most popular tourist destination for South Africans, and Mauritius was far ahead of any competitor region. However that all seems to be changing. Over the past few years, more and more South Africans are choosing to travel to Thailand instead. But just what is the appeal of this small South East Asian country.

There are a few reasons why South Africans consider going to Thailand. The flight time is a little longer than most would fly when flying to Mauritius and the flight is almost always more expensive. However once you are there, prices are substantially cheaper. This is due to two reasons. One, the country as a whole is still quite undeveloped and so prices are quite low in comparison to other more tourist-developed countries. Second, the prices are in Thai Baht (the local currency) which has a favourable exchange rate with the South African Rand. In Mauritius, most places will charge tourists in US Dollars, making it quite expensive once you are there. The cheapness of Thailand was one of the major first aspects of it that drew tourists there. Initially these were mainly backpackers and young people taking a gap year. However, things have changed and, although still popular with the backpacker-type, it is becoming a popular destination for young couples as well as families. Apart from the affordability of Thailand, another big drawing card is the raw beauty of the country. Yes there are quite developed areas like Bangkok, but the islands are still mostly undeveloped and have that natural beauty.

The typical trip to Thailand will include landing in Bangkok and spending a few days there. Then people usually go off to one of the islands like Phi Phi, Phuket, Lanta etc. People may even choose to hop from around a few islands. After that, they will head back to Bangkok, do some shopping, and then head home.

Holidays to Thailand are a delight to the senses and rich in cultural experiences as well. Thailand is blessed with four major natural terrains: Northern Thailand’s forests and mountains; Northeast Thailand’s steppe farmlands; Thailand’s Central Plains with their vast rice fields; and Thailand’s southern peninsula’s tropical islands.

Located in the heart of mainland Southeast Asia, Thailand has a population of more than 65 million.

Of these, three-quarters are Thai, with Chinese making up 14% of the population. Nearly 95% of the population is Buddhist, making Thailand one of the most heavily Buddhist countries on earth, but many other faiths are represented here as well. Though English is widely understood in tourist destinations and major cities in Thailand, learning a few phrases in Thai is a good idea before leaving on holidays to Thailand.

Bankok, Thailand’s capital, is many people’s first choice in destinations for holidays to Thailand.

It is one of the world’s most exciting cities, with an amazing array of culture, history, extravagance, and nightlife, counterpoised with the serenity of the temples and floating markets. The Asian investment boom of the 1980s and 90s resulted in Bangkok’s becoming a regional financial and business capital. It has also developed increasing influence in sectors as diverse as politics, fashion, and entertainment. Some 11 million international visitors experience Bangkok every year.

But there is far more to holidays to Thailand than the dizzying urban landscape of Bangkok. Beach resorts like Phuket and Krabi are as beautiful as ever, and have come far in recovering from the 2004 tsunami. One of the most beautiful places in Thailand is Koh Samui in the southern part of the country. It is a very popular holiday destination in Thailand. The provincial town of Songkhla in the far south is a well-kept secret. The beach is unkempt, with a natural, windswept quality. This is off the beaten path for most tourists, yet it is a very beautiful place to visit.

Chiang Mai City is a lively city with a rich history and numerous cultural festivals, as well as terrific local restaurants, Buddhist temples, and plenty of entertainment options. The so-called Golden Triangle is a great tour of Thailand, where you’ll experience hillside tribal villages, the Mekong River, and much rustic natural scenery. The reason the area is called the Golden Triangle is because it is close with two other popular destinations for visitors: Burma and Laos. The tourism options in this region are abundant.

Most holidays to Thailand that come packaged include travel and transportation arrangements, accommodations, visits to special sites, and other perks to make traveling easy and to maximize enjoyment. The people and government in Thailand welcome tourists and go out of their way to make sure that visitors are well cared for.

Even visitors on strict budgets can have enjoyable holidays to Thailand, because there are unique packages available that let visitors spend days and nights at the homes of local families. These holidays are a unique opportunity for learning how the people of Thailand live their day-to-day lives, and are a great cultural education and chance for making friends. Such holidays can be specially tailored for those who would rather come and go at will rather than spending full time with local families.

Thailand and those who package holidays to Thailand are very flexible and willing to create the perfect packaged holiday for any taste or budget. Whether you want to stay close to the popular beaches, temple sites, and other tourist attractions, or do something different like ride elephants, experience local wildlife or tribal culture, or visit the River Kwai, holidays to Thailand offer enough options that anyone can make that trip of a lifetime to Thailand that they’ll remember fondly forever.

Those who meet the eligibility criteria receive the approval of the visa and legally registered in the U.S., get a Green Card, which offers legal residence and the right to work in the United States.

Some have asked this question the author: “Is there any kind of citizenship-by-investment program in the U.S.?” The short answer: no.

There is currently no program, foreign nationals in the immediate vicinity can receive citizenship. However, because the EB-5 visa program will be called a “path to citizenship by investment.” This is due to the fact that those who enter the United States to obtain an EB-5 Lawful Permanent Residence, one of the prerequisites that must be met to apply for naturalization must be a U.S. citizen. Thailand Retreat Phuket Resort

thailand

thailand

When it comes to Phuket resorts, if you don’t do your homework you might find yourself staying somewhere fantastic or else somewhere completely drab. There are a large number of resorts in Phuket. Some of them are among the finest places to stay in all of Thailand, complete with all the trimmings, from swimming pools to spas.

There are some fine Phuket resort, but one that stands out above the crowd is the Indigo Pearl resort in Nai Yang, towards the north of the island. As a resort, Indigo Pearl has evolved into something really special, winning numerous awards along the way.

The five-star one of the most interesting Phuket resorts around. Owned by the prestigious Na Ranong family, the resort is like a fantasy playground. Every detail, from the cutlery and showerhead to the chairs and tables has been designed to reflect Phuket’s tin-mining history.

The resort is unique and a far cry from typical high-end chain hotels and resorts that you find all over Phuket.

The rooms are perfect. They aren’t excessively flashy, but they are comfortable in the optimal sense of the word. The bedding is exquisite and you won’t want to get out of bed in the mornings.

This Phuket resort is located right next to Nai Yang Beach, which is a peaceful beach spot that doesn’t attract many tourists. Nai Yang is also home to Phuket’s kitesurfing community, so if you want to try something new, this is as good a place as any.

Back on site, there is a decent range of facilities. There are tennis courts and the gym is worth a look if you fancy a workout. As with most Phuket resorts, there are several places for wining and dining.

Rivet Grill is an exceptional restaurant that serves up the best steaks on the island. Meanwhile, Rebar is a funky cocktail bar that stays open late and has a DJ spinning lounge music. The Tongkah Tin Syndicate bar is a funky theme bar full of artifacts from the tin-mining world of yesteryear.

The main restaurant is also home to the best Sunday brunch on the island – even better than the one at Floyd’s Brasserie at Burasari.

The staff are well trained and most of them can speak English proficiently. The only trouble with Indigo Pearl is that it’s located a long way from the majority of the island’s main attractions, but if you can bear being a little out in the wilderness, is the perfect Phuket resort.

Thai massage is considered a branch of Traditional Thai Medicine. It is regulated by the Thai government for the treatment of a various ailments. On the other hand, there is the more popular type of Thai massage done by the non-medical masseuse in spas and treatment centers in resorts.

Thai massage involves a lot of stretching and deep-pressure massages. Some say it is akin to yoga without the effort. True enough, modern-day Thai massage is sometimes referred to as Thai yoga massage. It is a more energizing and revitalizing form of massage as it incorporates joint mobilization, muscle compression and some form of acupressure during the course of a treatment. A session could last for 1 to 2 hours.

The Orion Healing Retreat Center is set in the serene Srithanu bay in Koh Phangan, Detox Thailand in peaceful surroundings, amid soothing sounds and rippling waters, your mind and soul are balanced, restoring a sense of serenity and vitality.

Peak season holiday tips for Thailand

holiday in thailand

holiday in thailand

Thailand is a popular tourist destination from December through to Febuary and it can get very over crowded in the  popular tourist destinations. Phuket, Pattaya and Bangkok are by far the most popular and busiest places in Thailand  during peak season. People often try to avoid these places and go to the next popular places like Koh Samui, Krabi,  and Chiang Mai but sometimes even these places can be hard to find accommodation and can also get very crowded.
Price in these destinations also are up due to these places having a lot of tourists who spend big, so it might be  better to try and find other destinations which will be cheaper, less crowded and more importantly also have just as  good of a time or even better than the usual tourist hot spots.

Below are some of other great places to visit during the peak season in Thailand

Trang, One of the most underated places in Thailand, most tourists who come to Thailand have never even heard about  this place, this is one fo the favourite places the local Thai people like to visit and it is very beautiful.

If the  locals are raving on about it then it has to be good. Trang is a few hours south of Phuket, cheaper, cleaner and a  lot more friendly than Phuket.

Khao Sok, A place which is growing quickly as a great destination to visit. A holiday in a rainforest which is even  more diverse and older than the amazon rainforest. The wild life and eco tourism in Khao Sok is definitaly the best  in Thailand and perhaps Asia. This has been kept a secret for awhile and tourists and expats in Thailand are only now starting to see why Khao Sok is a great this place to visit.

Hua Hin, is about 3 hours drive from Bangkok and is has only started to become popular over the last few years, the  main beach is one of the cleanest I have seen in Thailand and usually only has a handful of people on it due to  hotels being built right next to it, it makes the access for other people harder. The nightlife is also starting to  get bigger with a number of new bars opening every month, it is a great place to go that is not too far from Bangkok.

There are other places in Thailand that are off the beaten track that are emerging, but the above are the best alternatives in peak season for now.
